Introducing AI Scribe
a digital tool that will take medical notes during patient-doctor appointments
CVFP is embracing technology and innovation to make health care more patient-focused and efficient.
Our doctors are using a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool - AI Scribe. This tool will help to reduce the administrative burden for doctors.
What is AI Scribe?
AI Scribe is a digital tool that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to record and take notes of in-clinic voice conversations between patients and their doctor. “AI Scribe does NOT make medical recommendations. Your doctor will read the AI generated notes and is 100% responsible for your medical documentation and care,” says Dr. Janet Reynolds, CVFP Family Physician and Medical Director.
How it Works
“AI Scribe allows doctors to focus on their patient and the conversation they are having during a clinic visit. When doctors are back at their computer, they review the AI generated notes and add to the patient’s electronic medical record,” explains Dr. Reynolds.

How can AI Scribe help?
Reducing documentation time: By recording the entire patient/doctor voice conversation and generating real-time electronic medical notes, AI Scribe helps to reduce the administrative burden for doctors.
Improving continuity of care: Digital appointment capture using AI Scribe helps all health care providers access clear and accurate information, improving patient safety and continuity of care.
Many doctors report spending hours daily on charting, often completing this work after hours. Others dedicate an entire day each week to charting and other administrative tasks.

How is patient privacy protected?
We take the privacy and security of patient health information very seriously. The use of this tool complies with Alberta’s Health Information Act (HIA) which protects your health information and governs the collection, use and disclosure of that information. To learn more, read our 3-party provider’s privacy policy.
Do patients have a say on whether or not AI Scribe is used to record conversations during their appointment?
Before making any recording using an AI tool, we will ask for patient consent. For example, a CVFP doctor will ask “do you consent to AI Scribe listening to and summarizing our conversation for the purpose of medical documentation?” You must answer “yes” or “no”
