Dr. Janet Reynolds Appointed Co-Chair of the Strategic Advisory Panel for MAPS

Alberta’s primary health care leaders plus national & global experts are being brought together to identify immediate & long-term improvements to strengthen Alberta’s primary health care system

The Government of Alberta made a recent announcement which will strengthen Alberta's health care system and specifically primary care today and sustainably into the future. Three advisory panels are being established as part of Modernizing Alberta's Primary Health Care System (MAPS) to identify primary health care improvements now and over the next 10 years. Working closely with the Alberta Medical Association, Primary Care Networks and other primary care leaders from across Alberta, the MAPS panels will address major issues, identify key areas for improvement, and recommend both new opportunities and ways to capitalize on existing strengths within the Alberta health care system.

We are very excited to share that CVFP’s Dr. Janet Reynolds has been appointed as Co-Chair of the MAPS Strategic Advisory Panel together with Dr. Brad Bahler of Sylvan Lake.

The Strategic Advisory Panel for MAPS will include primary health leaders, patients and experts who are tasked with recommending an overall strategy to improve primary health care.

The focus of the MAPS panels will be in these key areas:

Improved access to timely care

Increased integration to support seamless transitions through the health system

High quality care

Meaningful partnerships with Albertans & social support networks as “partners in care”

Culturally safe & appropriate care

Leveraging innovation

An innovation forum will be held this winter 2022 to gather panel members, stakeholders and those involved in primary health to discuss solutions to current barriers, and highlight international and national innovations. A final report with a recommendation strategy will be finalized in spring 2023.
